Where to stay
Sullivan's Island has little conventional lodging inventory. Mount Pleasant puts harborfront resorts, Shem Creek rooms, and familiar hotels within a drive of the Ben Sawyer Bridge.
Three useful bases
Charleston Harbor
The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort adds pools, marina atmosphere, dining, and a private-beach setting. It is the higher-service option, though Sullivan's Island still requires a drive through Mount Pleasant.
Shem Creek
Shem Creek Inn places the evening beside working docks, boardwalk views, and a dense restaurant district. Beach traffic still controls the bridge crossing, so leave for Sullivan's Island early.
Mount Pleasant
Hotel Indigo and DoubleTree broaden room availability and simplify Charleston-area extensions. Compare the exact drive to the Ben Sawyer Bridge instead of assuming every Mount Pleasant address is equally close.
